The Best Minute: On innovation, how to be awesome, and reading more books
2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS
I. Larry Osborne on why willing to fail is needed for innovation:
“What is the dirty little secret of innovation? It’s simply this: most innovations fail.”
II. Jon Acuff on what it takes to be awesome:
“I learned a simple lesson about being awesome: always play to the size of your heart, not to the size of your audience. Awesome doesn’t let the crowd determine the size of the performance. Awesome gets up for two people or 200. Awesome writes great books even if no one is going to read them. Awesome sweeps the parts of store floors that no foot will ever touch. Awesome can’t help itself. Awesome has a huge heart. And that’s what it always plays to. The size of the crowd doesn’t matter. The applause of the audience doesn’t matter.”
2 IDEAS FROM ME
I. We improve in the areas we measure. If you want to get better at a particular skill, make a plan of working on it for a set amount of time and days per week and track whether or not you hit your goal. Wishing we were better doesn’t help us improve, doing does.
II. Fast readers don’t read more books. People who set aside the time to read, read more books.
1 RANDOM FACT
Your personality can partially change overtime. It’s been proven that your core personality traits don’t change as you age. However, over time your anxiety levels, friendliness, and bravery for trying new things can flux multiple times depending on experiences and trauma related to those experiences.
