The Best Minute: On greatness, problem solving, and hitting your goals
2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS
I. Scott Sauls on how to become great:
Read the Bible daily for 25 years.
Pick one church and stay there
Apologize when wrong
Forgive when wronged
Have friendships that cost you
Talk less
Listen more
Don’t steal time at work
Be the same at home as in public
II. General Colin Powell on why leadership is about solving problems:
“Leadership is solving problems. The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.”
2 IDEAS FROM ME
I. Generosity is trusting God with what is already his. Everything we own has either been given to us by God or God has allowed us to have. Therefore, we are never doing God a favor when we give; we are trusting him with what he first entrusted to us.
II. The biggest reason people fail to hit their goals is that they didn’t actually set a goal they wanted to hit.
1 RANDOM FACT
You are the tallest first thing in the morning.
This phenomenon may be due to gravity compressing cartilage in our spine and in other parts of our bodies, such as our knees when we stand up or sit down throughout the day. While we are lying down in a resting position, the spine is said to “spread out” or decompress, so when we wake in the morning we are taller after lying in bed all night.
In fact, astronauts coming back from outer space are a few inches taller than their normal height on earth because of the lack of gravitational forces on their spines away from the earth’s atmosphere. When they are on earth again, gravity will gradually return them to their normal height.
