The Best Minute: On predicting future behavior, success, and getting 5% better
2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS
I. Marcus Buckingham on predicting future behavior in others:
“The conventional wisdom holds that the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. But this is incomplete. The best predictor of future behavior is frequent past behavior… For example, if you want to know if someone is organized, ask him about how he has structured his life so that he can be more efficient. If he can tell you a specific instance of when he did this, give him credit. However, if he describes in glorious but generic terms how very important it is to be organized… simply chalk it up to the fact the organizing for great efficiency is not a regular part of his daily life. If it were, it would be happening all the time.”
II. Scott Adams on success:
“If you want to be successful, find out what the price is and then pay it.”
2 IDEAS FROM ME
I. If you struggle to stay on top of your email, start checking your email less. Schedule specific times in the day when you will address your inbox and work through all the email you can in that allotted time. Constantly checking (and sending) email actually makes staying on top of your inbox more work.
II. How well you know God is revealed in how well you love people.
I INTERESTING FACT
The ability to look up any of the information in the world is great for everything except your memory. Your brain isn’t lazy, per se. But it’s very busy and prioritizes tasks that absolutely need to be done. So, if it knows you can look something up again, your brain may not store that tidbit of information.
I QUESTION FOR YOU
If you could get 5% better at one thing what would it be? What is stopping you from working on improving 5% in that area?
