⛪️ Practical Church: How to handle Mondays
💡 1 SOLUTION FOR EFFECTIVE MINISTRY
Mondays can be a difficult day for people in ministry. The toll of Sunday (even if Sunday goes well!), doubts about your effectiveness, discouragement from comparison to what other churches have going on; it can be a lot.
Here are two tips I recommend when it comes to Mondays:
1) No major decisions can be made on Monday
Make it a rule. You can’t quit, hire, fire, start or stop a ministry, change the direction of the church, etc. If you’re not typically at your best on Mondays, predetermine not to make any major decisions.
2) Make Mondays a full workday
One of the best ways to avoid feeling down or sluggish on Mondays is to stack your Mondays with things to do. I’ve done this for years and highly recommend it. Not only do I feel productive at the beginning of the week, but it helps me focus on things I am getting done instead of sitting in any discouragement or disappointment that can often come on Mondays.
💬 1 QUOTE FROM A PRACTITIONER
I. Paul David Tripp on what’s important in ministry:
“Personal ministry is not about always knowing what to say. It is not about fixing everything in sight that is broken. Personal ministry is about connecting people with Christ so that they are able to think as he would have them think, desire what he says is best, and do what he calls them to do even if their circumstances never get ‘fixed.’
It involves exposing hurt, lost, and confused people to God's glory, so that they give up their pursuit of their own glory and live for his.”
💯 1 PRACTICAL RESOURCE FOR MINISTRY
I recommend Google Workspace for your church’s email hosting and cloud services. As a non-profit with a 501c3 you can have up to 10 emails for free. Google Drive is a great place for documents and spreadsheets. A lot of people outside your church use Google as well, so it makes it easy to share files with those outside your organization when needed. Our church has used Google Drive from the beginning (all my sermons in there!) from the beginning and have never had any issues.
🤔 1 CHALLENGE FOR LIFE AND MINISTRY
A day off also includes not checking your email. Take a 24-hour window each week (I personally do Friday around 5ish until Saturday evening) and don’t open your email. And remember, emails aren’t emergencies. If someone really needs you, they will call you.
