⏱️ The Best Minute: The quickest way to build a habit
💡 1 IDEA FROM ME
Spending time around the right people is one of the quickest ways to improve an area of your life.
Crossfit is so effective because it puts you around people who have a similar desire to improve their health
Church involvement is so important because it puts you around people who also want to grow in their faith
A niche online community is so helpful because it allows you to interact with people who want to build a similar skill
If you desire to build a new habit, ask yourself who can you connect with that will help you achieve this goal.
Often this can be found with a friend you already have, simply by inviting them to join you in your pursuit so you can accomplish it together. Developing a new habit in community with others is a surefire way to increase your chances of making it stick.
There is a very likely chance that many of your failed goals and habits were also something you pursued without telling anyone. I get it, you don’t feel as much like a failure if no one knew you were trying. But don’t we try new things because we desire to see a positive change in our lives?
If you want to build a new habit or improve on anything, don’t do it alone.
The community you chose today will determine your habits tomorrow.
💬 2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS
I. Morgan Housel on happiness hasn’t improved despite all the advances of modern society:
“It’s been like this forever. Montesquieu wrote 275 years ago, ‘If you only wished to be happy, this could be easily accomplished; but we wish to be happier than other people, and this is always difficult, for we believe others to be happier than we are.’
John D. Rockefeller never had penicillin, sunscreen, or Advil. But you can’t say a low-income American with Advil and sunscreen today should feel better off than Rockefeller, because that’s not how people’s heads work. People gauge their well-being relative to those around them, and luxuries become necessities in a remarkably short period of time when people around you become better off.
Investor Charlie Munger once noted that the world isn’t driven by greed; it’s driven by envy.”

II. Ursula K. Le Guin on shooting for the top:
Interviewer: “Against whom were you measuring your work?”
Le Guin: “Charles Dickens. Jane Austen. And then, when I finally learned to read her, Virginia Woolf. Shoot for the top, always. You know you’ll never make it, but what’s the fun if you don’t shoot for the top?”
💯 1 THING I RECOMMEND
Dohm white noise sound machine.
I use this not only for sleeping at night but even at times while working at my office at home to drown out any noise from my family. It is quick to turn on and off and set to your desired sound level. Even small noises can break up your focus, so this is the sound machine I use.
🤯 1 INTERESTING FACT
When mice live in the wild, they typically only live for about six months.
This is mostly due to the fact that they’re a good source of food for other animals. However, in a controlled environment, like being kept as a pet, they can live up to two years.
