⏱️ The Bible is not a handbook

💡 2 THOUGHTS FROM ME

I. It’s important to remember that the Bible is wisdom literature—meant to be read, reread, and applied through God-given principles. It’s not a handbook with a list of rules that speaks to every specific issue.

But just because the Bible doesn’t mention a specific word doesn’t mean it’s silent on the subject.

For example, some claim the Bible has nothing to say about abortion because the word abortion isn’t found in Scripture. But because the Bible is wisdom literature (not a handbook), there is still wisdom and principles we can apply to the issue of abortion, even if it isn’t addressed explicitly.

While the Bible doesn’t mention abortion by name, it’s clear about the value of human life. Genesis 1 says all people are made in the image of God. Psalm 139 tells us that God forms us in the womb. Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.” Luke 1 describes John the Baptist leaping in his mother’s womb. And in the Old Testament law, harming an unborn child carried additional consequences.

The Bible may not list every modern issue, but its wisdom still applies. Every human life matters—born or unborn, regardless of size, location, or circumstance.

The teaching and wisdom of Scripture is clear: every human being matters. Whether born or unborn, no matter where you live, your gender, or your stage of development—every life has value.

Yes, the Bible absolutely speaks to abortion, even if it doesn’t use the word.

II. Here’s why it’s hard to learn.

In many cases, in order to learn, you have to do. Obtaining information is easy. Doing is hard. But doing is how you actually learn.

Reading a book, watching a video, or listening to a podcast is helpful—but that’s the easy part. Real learning requires doing the hard part. You have to try. And trying often involves the frustration of failing, or not getting it right the first time (or the twentieth).

Obtaining information is easy. Learning is hard.

Are you willing to learn?

💬 2 HELPFUL QUOTES

I. Craig Groeschel on the importance of consistency:

"Successful people do consistently what others do occasionally. It’s not about intensity, but consistency that makes the greatest difference over time."

II. Walter Elliot on what perseverance actually is:

"Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after another. Most people quit not because they’re incapable, but because they got tired of starting over. But if you focus on the next step, and then the next, you’ll find yourself further along than you ever imagined."

📖 1 BRIEF BOOK REVIEW

Greenlights

A memoir by actor Matthew McConaughey. Overall, it was an interesting and attention-keeping read. He was very open, honest, and raw. Sometimes, it felt a little too raw (and a little weird), but it was insightful nonetheless.

It was easy to keep reading, and as someone who enjoys memoirs, I liked learning about his life and his story. If he is a favorite actor of yours, you'd enjoy this book. If not, it still was a decent read, but I didn't walk away with any particular insights or revelations on life.
